Starting something new can be challenging for anyone, especially when taking on a leadership role that involves guiding others. This article will serve as a guide that contains essential advice from seniors for those who have recently become more deeply involved in U4C. Through interviews, the article will cover U4C members’ initial difficulties, motivation, and tips.
Q1. What inspired you to join and take on an executive role in Unity 4 Charity?
The executive members of U4C initially joined the organization out of a simple interest in volunteering, but as they continued their activities, they gradually developed a desire to contribute more actively.
Joseph explained that he was particularly drawn to the team’s warm and encouraging atmosphere. He said, “Once I joined, I had so many meaningful experiences helping out communities in need”, adding that this realization motivated him to want other members to experience the same sense of accomplishment.
Sally also explained that as she participated in activities, she felt a greater sense of responsibility and took on a leadership role to contribute more actively to the organization beyond mere participation.
Q2. Can you share a moment when you felt that your work made a real impact?
The impact felt by the two executive members was shown in each way. Joseph explained that he felt his contribution had a truly meaningful impact through the changes in the team’s atmosphere. He stated that while it was not easy to elicit participation from the members in the beginning, he took the initiative himself and consistently tried to motivate them. As a result, he feels the greatest sense of reward in seeing the members now proactively participating and positively influencing one another.
Meanwhile, Sally revealed that she felt her impact through the experience of reorganizing the systems. She explained that she felt a sense of accomplishment in having brought about tangible changes to the organization during that process. At first, there were some unsystematic sides of operating methods, but as she participated in sorting them one by one, she was able to feel the impact of her action.
Q3. What has been the most challenging part of your experience in U4C?
However, this progression did not always go smoothly. Joseph mentioned that the biggest challenge was securing the participation of the members, saying, “It’s not always easy to get people to stay involved or care as much as you do.”
Sally also stated that facing unexpected problems during the preparation process was the most difficult part. Although she struggled with how to handle such situations, she was able to gradually learn how to respond flexibly and was able to solve problems more effectively in similar situations.
Q4. What advice would you give to members who want to take on leadership roles?
Based on these experiences, the two executive members shared a common message regarding leadership. Joseph emphasized consistency and responsibility more than anything else to those aspiring to take on leadership roles. He also advised that it is crucial to lead the team’s atmosphere and maintain energy, even when there is a lack of response. Lastly, he added that a leader’s role is to empower members to find their own motivation through their passion and sense of purpose.
Sally stressed the importance of taking on challenges without hesitation. She explained that most people grow through experience rather than starting perfectly prepared. She finally added that leadership does not stem merely from a title, but from responsibility and effective communication.
Through two exemplary members’ experiences, it becomes clear that leadership in U4C is not simply about holding a position. Despite their difficulties, the consistency, initiative, and passion have made them good leaders. For new members stepping into leadership roles, it is okay to start uncertainly, as growth comes through experience. With dedication and purpose, anyone can create a positive impact within the U4C community.
